Mercedes-Benz, First Quarter 2010 Sales Dominance

Toyota halted U.S. sales of the 2010 Lexus GX 460 luxury SUV on Tuesday and stopped production overall after Consumer Reports warned of a rollover risk and issued a rare warning advising consumers not to buy it.

Road handling tests by the magazine published by Consumers Union found that vehicle's rear end could slide out in a tight turn.

Lexus spokesman Bill Kwong said in a statement that "our engineers in Japan replicated the driving procedure and have duplicated the Consumer Reports result."

Toyota was "evaluating potential remedies" and it was too early to determine the timing of any repairs, Kwong said.

He added that sales will remain suspended until the company is confident the issue is resolved.

David Strickland, administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, said on Thursday the agency would conduct its own tests on the Lexus used by Consumer Reports and on others of the same model.

Strickland applauded Toyota's handling of the warning on the Lexus SUV, which is a departure from the stiff criticism from regulators and lawmakers over how the company managed recent recalls.

Toyota recalled more than 6 million cars and trucks in the United States across its product line in October 2009 and in January for unintended acceleration linked to the "sticky pedal" problem and for floor mats that can trap the accelerator.

NHTSA engineers are in the midst of another review to address lingering questions about whether there are possible software or other electronic glitches in Toyota throttles and whether they could be behind consumer complaints of unintended acceleration.

U.S. safety investigators have never found any problems with the Toyota throttle systems, but lawmakers, safety advocates and others have questioned whether investigations over the years were thorough enough.

Preliminary work by Toyota engineering consultant Exponent (EXPO.O) showed no problems with the throttles, Toyota has said. The automaker has also said its internal reviews over the years have found that the system is sound.

Congress wants more answers, however.

In a letters on Friday to Toyota's Lentz and Exponent officials, Energy and Commerce Chairman Henry Waxman and Investigations Subcommittee Chairman Bart Stupak sought contracts, correspondence, reports and analysis related to Exponent's work for Toyota.

Toyota said in a statement it is "more than willing to meet with the committee and discuss" electronic throttle testing and steps to improve quality assurance.

Waxman and Stupak took issue with Toyota's conclusion in March that it had rigorously examined its throttle systems and found no problems.

Unit 1850 Honda Acura Recall ZDX

Isso fará com que você aumente o peso na roda dianteira evitando que ela escorregue e manterá seu equilíbrio quando a roda traseira derrapar. Num ponto da curva (você vai ter que descobrir o seu ponto) você começa a acelerar forte. A moto deve escorregar um pouco. Quando alinhar a moto na reta, você já deve estar voltando para a posição em pé, jogando seu peso na roda de trás para dar mais tração à roda traseira. A vantagem é de você sair forte da curva. Com prática, você deve conseguir fazer mais rápido do que a outra, mas você precisa de espaço para isso. Se estiver no corpo-a-corpo e seu adversário souber fazer a outra curva, é provável que você fique para trás.

Faça o mesmo com os conectores da bateria e com os cabos.

Seque bem todas as partes.

Para evitar que este problema aconteça de novo, aplique nos bornes e terminais algum tipo de graxa ou vaselina.

Quando, em 1885, o engenheiro alemão Daimler construiu o primeiro motor de combustão interna capaz de mover um veículo com razoáveis condições de segurança e economia, começou uma corrida em busca de aperfeiçoamentos, que dura até hoje.

Em 1894, outro engenheiro alemão, Rudolf Diesel, houve por bem simplificar o princípio de funcionamento do motor a explosão. Nasceu assim o motor diesel, que iliminou a necessidade de um circuito elétrico relativamente complicado para iniciar a combustão da gasolina. Nesse tipo de engenho, o combustível - o óleo diesel - queima por ação do calor que se liberta quando o ar é altamente comprimido.

O novo motor, dotado de uma eficiência térmica muito mais elevada que a dos motores a gasolina, logo encontrou emprego em instalações industriais e na produção de veículos pesados, como locomotivas, grandes caminhões e navios.

O rendimento, o tempo de vida útil, a segurança de funcionamento e o baixo custo de manutenção são algumas das características que fazem do motor diesel o preferido nesse tipo de aplicação.

Ciclo de um motor diesel

A. No primeiro estágio do ciclo de combustão, chamado indução, o ar é aspirado para o interior do cilindro, penetrando nele através da válvula de entrada.

B. Durante o segundo estágio, a compressão, o pistão sobe e comprime o ar dentro do cilindro, em proporção muito mais elevada do que num motor a gasolina comum.

C. Na ignição, o combustível é injetado no ar comprimido a alta temperatura, entrando em combustão espontânea e forçando o movimento do pistão para baixo.

D. No último estágio, denominado exaustão, os gases que se formaram na fase anterior são expelidos do interior do cilindro pelo movimento ascendente do pistão.

No motor diesel a descida do pistão não aspira mistura combustível; somente ar puro entra no cilindro. E, quando o pistão se desloca para cima, apenas esse ar sofre compressão. A compressão interna no cilindro atinge um grau muito mais elevado que nos motores a gasolina - suas taxas de compressão vão de 14:1 a 25:1. Em conseqüência, a temperatura do ar comprimido eleva-se consideravelmente, chegando a ultrapassar os 700º. À medida que o pistão se aproxima do limite máximo de seu curso, um fino jato de combustível é impulsionado para o interior do cilindro. Devido à alta compressão, o ar fica tão quente que, ao receber o combustível, faz este entrar em combustão espontânea, dispensando a presença da vela de ignição (ou ignição eletrônica).

Como no motor diesel o volume de ar aspirado para o interior do cilindro é sempre o mesmo, a velocidade da máquina é controlada apenas pela quantidade de combustível fornecida pelo injetor.

O motor diesel permite adaptações para funcionar com praticamente qualquer tipo de combustível, desde os óleos vegetais, até o gás natural e a gasolina de alta octanagem; porém, o mais comum e adequado é o óleo diesel destilado do óleo mineral cru. O óleo diesel é mais volátil que a gasolina e seu ponto de combustão situa-se aproximadamente a 75ºC.

Todo mundo sabe acelerar, mas poucos sabem frear. Pra quem não sabe, o principal responsável por parar a moto é o freio dianteiro, não o traseiro.

Em linha reta e em alta velocidade, a melhor maneira de diminuir a velocidade rapidamente é se mantendo em pé na moto, com o corpo inclinado para trás. O uso do freio dianteiro deve ser progressivo, ou seja, você deve começar a pressioná-lo levemente e ir apertando aos poucos. Nunca fique dando "trancos" no freio, não ajuda em nada. O freio traseiro deve ser usado levemente, para ajudar na desaceleração.

Numa entrada de curva, o freio traseiro será travado para provocar uma derrapagem.

Outra dica importante é observar o terreno sobre o qual vc freia, isso pra se ter uma idéia do quanto vc pode frear sem cair e do quanto utilizar de cada freio. Em descidas com o chão cheio de pedras,por exemplo, use mais o freio traseiro, frear a dianteira é tombo certo.
